Following are several project abstracts that detail how Matrix Technologies was successful in addressing client needs with effective solutions.


This project consisted of design and fabrication of three control panels, development of a Functional Specification and Factory Acceptance Test and generation of PLC and HMI software for the control system for a Purification Lab.

The philosophy of the control system design was to automate and interlock the filling, circulating, and transferring operations with options for the operators to control certain aspects of the process manually. The control system utilized an Allen-Bradley SLC 5/03 as the PLC and an Allen-Bradley PanelView 550 as the Human Machine Interface (HMI). DH485 was used as the communication protocol.

The HMI provided the operators with system status information and alarm banners that classified three levels of alarm priorities. The HMI also incorporated two levels of security (engineer and operator) to ensure that only qualified personnel could modify process variables.

The pump control system is located in a Class 1, Division 2 hazardous area. An explosion-proof NEMA 7/9 enclosure and Stahl intrinsic safety barriers were installed accordingly.

Upon completion of the installation, Matrix performed the startup requirements and executed a Site Acceptance Test (SAT) for the new software and hardware.


The scope of this project included generation, verification, and modification of the electrical, I/O loop, pneumatic, and panel layout diagrams for fermenters of various sizes, project management, and system documentation modification.

The goal of this project was to create a set of as-built diagrams for each fermenter and then field verify the diagrams.

The Automation Functional Requirements (AFR) and System Support Manual (SSM) were modified in regards to the electrical wiring and panel layout diagram lists.

The panel layout and wiring diagrams were developed according to client document engineering standards. Field verification of the diagrams was performed in accordance with client document SOP.
